Why I Teach

I am passionate about teaching because I understand firsthand the impact a dedicated and caring teacher can have on a student's life. During the elementary school years, students may not always recognize the external factors influencing their well-being, whether it be it challenges at home, transitions, or other uncertainties. However, these factors can significantly affect their learning, development, and daily experiences at school.

I teach so that I can be a consistent source of support, love, and stability in my students' lives. I strive to create a classroom environment where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to take risks. By collaborating with my students to develop classroom norms and build strong relationships, I aim to create a space that encourages self-expression and embraces mistakes as learning opportunities, helping students build confidence and resilience.

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing the smiles on my students' faces as they grasp new concepts, develop socially and emotionally, and apply the skills we've practiced together. In an age where we are competing with media and technology for our students’ attention, I am committed to making learning engaging and enjoyable. By integrating interactive activities and fostering a sense of community where students can make personal connections to content, I hope to create a classroom where students are genuinely excited to learn and feel a strong sense of belonging.

To me, teaching is about nurturing the whole child. I want my students to know that, regardless of what they face outside the classroom, they have a reliable and caring adult they can come to when they come to school each day. With the help of my class, I hope to create a community where learning is joyful, challenges are met with perseverance, and every student is celebrated for who they are.
